On Losing a Dog

Posted on

I’ve said that my dogs are my K9 kids, because they give me much more than I give them. They have been with me through some of my darkest days, offering themselves and their love, unconditionally. My heart both broke and was filled with joy after reading this post, because I could truly related. I wish you all peace and the awesome experience of adopting a pet.

In his grief over the loss of a dog, a little boy stands for the first time on tiptoe, peering into the rueful morrow of manhood. After this most inconsolable of sorrows there is nothing life can do to him that he will not be able somehow to bear. – James Thurber

In July of 2004, my brother James held Dutch, his German Shorthaired Pointer, for the first time. On November 20, 2014, James held Dutch for the last time. After ten incredible years Dutch succumbed to the ravaging effects of hemangiosarcoma, a deadly and unfortunately common cancer in dogs.

Ten years, that’s the deal. The lucky get more time, far too many get less. But we all must inevitably face the end. That end – the only end – is heartbreak. When Dutch died I held James and we cried. I wasted no breath on neat and impotent words. James…

Heather eloquently express who we are – the clinically depressed. And, I now know what my next tattoo will be.

FullSizeRender-1FullSizeRender Today I went to a tattoo artist, and for $60 I let a man with a giant Jesus-tattoo on his head ink a semi-colon onto my wrist where it will stay until the day I die. By now, enough people have started asking questions that it made sense for me to start talking, and talking about things that aren’t particularly easy.

We’ll start here: a semi-colon is a place in a sentence where the author has the decision to stop with a period, but chooses not to. A semi-colon is a reminder to pause and then keep going.

In April I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. By the beginning of May I was popping anti-depressents every morning with a breakfast I could barely stomach. In June, I had to leave a job I’d wanted since I first set foot on this campus as an incoming freshmen because of my mental…

Looks it might be good.

Did you guys see the Ugly Love movie teaser?

Lots of questions are pouring in about the process of turning the book into a film. Keep in mind that I wrote the book. I’m not making the film, so I can’t answer all the questions I’m receiving. However, I have absolute confidence that Hackybox Pictures will do the book justice and I’m excited to see how it plays out.

The film has been in pre-production, which means they haven’t officially begun filming yet. But I’m so excited to see who they cast for Tate! To follow along and be a part of the action, join the Ugly Love indie go-go campaign. This is a fun way for Nick Bateman fans and fans of the book to be included in the making of Ugly Love.

Also, for a chance to win a signed copy of Ugly Love, just share this…

May the 4th be with you

It’s Star Wars day, and like millions of fans, I am looking forward to seeing how the series will continue.

I have mixed feelings about this, because I saw “Star Wars,” in a movie theater as part of a friend’s birthday party.  To this day, I cannot watch the race to destroy the Death Star, without getting seasick.  Ah. Memories.

Have a great day, everyone!

The API Gals are joining the True Ghost Stories family. Archer Paranormal Investigations represents Team Georgia for the upcoming series scheduled to debut on June 15th. The series follows 15 paranormal teams from the United States, Canada, and Europe as they investigate paranormal activity. The series is unique because nothing is scripted! The hour-long episodes showcase what investigations are truly like.

The series will be available on Roku and on Paranoia TV. Sherri Emily, founder of L.I.F.E. Omni Radio (www.wlor.net), joins as an executive producer. Nick Sarlo, founder of the paranormal team Shadow Hunters, directs.
